Plein-Air Painting Workshop

Saturday & Sunday, May 31st & June 1st (rain or shine)

12PM-4PM each day with a short break - drinks provided, but please bring a snack. Beginners welcome!

$300 (plus materials)

In this two-day workshop, participants will paint outside (weather permitting). Everyone will find a spot with an interesting view on the property outside The Workshop, work on their idea sketches and then start to paint - first using one tone, and then with a limited color palette.

Before starting to work outside, there will be an introduction to the plein-air painting as well as a demo.

Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. Please bring a sun hat with a brim or sunglasses to protect your eyes, sunblock, tick/mosquito repellent & a snack. Remember to dress in layers and to bring a long-sleeve shirt.

Day 1

  • Introduction to plein-air painting

  • Charcoal on paper idea sketches

  • One-tone underpainting on a tinted canvas

Day 2

  • Painting using a limited color palette

  • Color mixing

This workshop will be limited to a group of 10 people.

Paulina Swietliczko’s work is inspired by everyday life, people, objects and the landscape. Native to Poland, she holds an MFA in Painting and Lithography from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland where she studied with Rajmund Ziemski and Jaroslaw Modzelewski. In 2012, she moved to Virginia from California, where she was a community college art instructor and an artist in residence at the Fresno Art Museum. 

Currently, she lives in Roanoke where she paints, teaches art in her downtown studio and is involved in the local art scene. In the summer of 2024, Paulina was Four Pillars artist in residence at Mount Gretna School of Art in Pennsylvania.
